NEWS FROM AFRICA "Algiers 2021" awaits the signal...

The African Senior Athletics Championships, initially scheduled for Oran, are to be held June 24-28, 2021 in Algiers. However, the Algerian organizers are awaiting the green light from the national scientific commission for monitoring the Covid-19 pandemic, which alone is empowered to make a decision in relation to the evolution of the pandemic at national and regional level. The CAA is listening to the Algerian authorities to confirm the date of the championships.

Echikunwoke dethrones Amy Sene

The African Women's Hammer Record is now owned by Annette Echikunwoke, a US-based athlete who was recognized as eligible to represent Nigeria from January 1, 2021. This year, she passed the bar 70 meters for the first time, setting a personal best of 72.25m in Auburn, Alabama, on April 16. A performance 25cm from the Olympic minimum!

Thus, the Senegalese Amy Sène (69.70m in 2014) is no longer the holder of the African hammer record.
