OBITUARY : Jamel Si Mohamed, a life dedicated to athletics

Athletics was shaken by the death of Jamel Si Mohamed, who previously held senior positions within the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). He was a loyal companion of President Lamine Diack, who chaired these bodies.

A man of values, an outstanding teacher, and a great trainer, he devoted his entire life to the development of Algerian sport, training several generations of athletes and coaches.

His commitment and expertise earned him the right to represent Algeria with dignity within the International Athletics Federation, where he worked tirelessly to promote and enhance the sport.

On behalf of the Confederation of African Athletics, President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum paid tribute to the memory of the departed with this poignant testimony “Jamel Si Mohamed, a great name in world athletics, African Athletics and Algerian Athletics. A man with a keen professional conscience, unparalleled dedication and proven availability. Si Mohamed departed, leaving behind a legacy of great value. But he also leaves an insurmountable void, a great deal of sadness for his family and for his great Athletics family in general. I pray to Allah SWT to admit him into His Paradise. Amen.
