WORLD INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: Africa won 4 Gold, 5 Silver, 4 Bronze medals

The indoor world championships, held in Belgrade (Serbia) from March 18 to 20, 2022, were marked by three new world records set by Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas (15m74 Triple Jump), Sweden's Armand Duplantis (6m20 Pole Vault) and the American Grant Holloway (7''29 in the 60m hurdles).

 

Africa's participation was honorable with 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. Ethiopia took first place in the final rankings with 4 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze ahead of the United States (3 Gold) and Belgium (2 Gold).

The other African countries which reached a podium are Kenya (1 Silver, 1 Bronze), Nigeria (1 Silver) and Uganda (1 Bronze). The Portuguese of Cameroonian origin, Auriol Dongmo was crowned in the shot put with a throw of 20m 43. Thirteen events (60m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 60m hurdles, high jump, pole, long jump, triple jump, shot put, 4x400m, and heptathlon) were on the program for men and women.
