eugene– The City of Eugene in the United States seems to be a lucky charm for Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay after once again bagging a medal, this time a maiden gold.

Tsegay, 25, produced a jaw-dropping sprint down the home straight to clinch her first World Championships gold (14:46.29) after crossing the line first in the women’s 5000m final on the penultimate day of the 2022 global athletics event in Oregon.

EUGENE– South African top sprinter Wayde van Niekerk says patience will be the key to success in his planned podium comeback.  

The 30-year-old, who holds the 400m World Record of 43.03sec set at the 2016 Rio Olympics, missed out on the World Championships podium in Oregon where he finished fifth in 44.97sec. 

EUGENE- Trailblazer Werkuha Getachew once again entered into Ethiopia’s history books after giving her country a maiden women’s 3000m steeplechase silver medal at the World Championships in Oregon.

Entering the race as the reigning African Champion, Werkuha did not disappoint as she pushed World Leader this season Winfred Yavi of Bahrain and Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan to the wire, setting a new National Record of 8 minutes, 54.61 seconds.

Once again, she won it for Kenya. She won it for her daughter. And She did it for all mothers out there. Though many think that being a mom and a professional athlete does not go hand-in-hand, Faith Kipyegon is proving to the world that motherhood is making her a better runner. She clinched her fourth global title in Women's 1500m final in Oregon World Athletics Championships 2022 at Hayward Field.

World Athletics Council has selected Tokyo, Japan, to host the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

The 2025 World Athletics Championships will see the sport’s biggest stars return to Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium, venue for last year’s Olympic Games, in the year that the Japanese Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) celebrates its centenary year.

The World Athletics Championships Oregon22 will see more than 1900 athletes from 192 teams compete at Eugene’s Hayward Field between 15-24 July.

The action starts with men's hammer qualifying on Friday 15 July, while the women’s 4x400m final brings competition to a close on Sunday 24 July. You can keep up-to-date with the latest on the World Athletics website, its associated platforms and via a number of broadcasters around the world.

All five of Kenya’s champions from Doha in 2019 will defend their titles at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 on 15-24 July.

Beatrice Chepkoech, Ruth Chepngetich, Timothy Cheruiyot, Conseslus Kipruto and Hellen Obiri have been named on the Kenyan team for the event at Hayward Field, where they will be joined by athletes including Olympic champions Peres Jepchirchir, Faith Kipyegon and Emmanuel Korir.

Kenya finished second in the medal table behind USA in Doha three years ago with five gold, two silver and four bronze medals.
