Cameroon paid a last and solemn tribute on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Yaoundé, to Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, President of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSC), who passed away on Wednesday, May 13, in Yaoundé, at the age of 75.
The ceremony, organized by the CNOSC, was held in the presence of many dignitaries. Ministers of the Republic, ambassadors accredited to Yaoundé, high-ranking military officers, and members of the entire national Olympic community traveled to Yaoundé to honor the memory of the man who led the Cameroonian Olympic movement for several decades.
A key figure in African sport, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum left his mark on the CNOSC through his commitment to the development of sport and the promotion of Olympic values. He also served as President of the Confederation of African Athletics and as a member of the International Olympic Committee. As such, a delegation from the CAA, including the Chief Executive Officer Lamine Faty, Council member Beatrice Ayikoru, and Amadou Dia Ba, Director of AADC Dakar, participated in the event. Tributes were given, recalling his role as a builder, his commitment to dialogue, and his passion for youth. Several athletes present spoke of a leader who was close to the ground and attentive to the well-being of athletes.
With his passing, Cameroon loses one of its greatest servants of sport. The ceremony on July 4th marks the end of an era for the CNOSC, which must now continue the work of its late president.
