The first woman to go under the 2h10' barrier in a marathon by winning on Sunday October 13, 2024 in Chicago (2h09'56''), the Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich further reduced the gap separating the best women's and men's times. Yet another proof of an underlying trend.
Ruth Chepnegetich broke the old women's marathon record set in September 2023 in Berlin by the Ethiopian Tigist Assefa.
Ruth Chepngetich: "I feel so good. I'm proud of myself and I thank God for the victory and the world record. It's my dream come true. I trained a lot with the world record in mind and I "I realized, and I'm very grateful," she explained.
