Togo rolls out the carpet at CAA

But the highlight of the visit was the audience given to President Kalkaba by the President of the Republic Faure Eyadema. The CAA greatly appreciated the decision of the Togolese Head of State to support the activities of the African Athletics Development Center in Lomé as well as the option for holding the African U Championships 18 and U 20 in 2023. The Togolese authorities, through Prime Minister Komi Selor Klassou and Minister of Sports Katari Folly Bazi, who gave a warm welcome to the CAA delegation assured their full support for the Togolese federation athletics for the success of the 6th edition of the African cross country championships. President Kalkaba also took advantage of his stay to pay a visit to the residents of the AADC in Lomé led by Rafael Agopomé.

The first meeting of the new CAA Council is scheduled for April 7, followed by the African cross country championship on April 8.

CROSS-COUNTRY AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP A CAA preparatory and validation mission in Togo

The President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, will be staying in Togo from 19th to 22nd January 2020 as part of preparations for the 6th Africa cross country championships scheduled for April 8 in Lomé. He will be accompanied respectively by Lamine FATY, the Chief Executive Officer and Mr Aziz Daouda, the Technical and Development Director.

The CAA delegation will carry out a technical inspection of the sites and sign the MoU regarding the organization of the event. Thus, for four days, President Kalkaba and his colleagues will work with the Togolese authorities on the challenges to be met for a success of this first continental meeting of the 2020 season, initially scheduled for March 1, then postponed upon request by the Togolese Government which had just set the date of their presidential elections for February 22, 2020. Given this electoral period which will continue until the end of March 2020, it was strongly recommended by the local authorities to postpone the event to ensure all the participation and organization conditions.

CAA officials will take the opportunity of this visit in Togo to prepare the first meeting of the new Council put in place after the Abidjan elections last April. The council meeting is scheduled for April 7, followed by the African cross country championship on April 8.
