Kip Keino Classic: Tebogo and Lindsey shone in the 200m

American Courtney Lindsey beat Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo in the photo finish, both having crossed the finish line in 19''71 (-1.5 m/s), co-signing the best world performance of the year in the half -round of the track, during the Kip Keino Classic international meeting held last Saturday. The meeting was marked, however, by the superb performance of Canadian hammer world champion Ethan Katzberg, who won with a throw of 84.38 m. This is his personal best, the best mark of the year and also the farthest throw achieved since 2008, making the Canadian the 9th performer in history. His previous record was 81.25 m in 2023 during the World Championships in Budapest.

In the 100 m, America’s Kenny Bednarek won in 9''91 (+2.2 m/s) ahead of the Liberia’s Emmanuel Matadi (9''99) and the British Jeremiah Azu (10''00), Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala being only 5th (10”03).

Other World best, that of Botswana’s Bayapo Ndori over 400 m in 44''10, as well as Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot over 3000 m steeplechase in 8'20''54, Reynold Cheruiyot, over 1500 m in 3'31''96 and Emmanuel Wanyonyi over 800 m in 1'43''57.

Before the start of the competitions, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the Chief of Staff of the Kenyan Armed Forces, General Francis Ogolla, who died the day before in a helicopter crash in northern Kenya.
