Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear members of our family,
As usual, I would like to present to you, once again, the New Year's greetings from the Confederation of African Athletics. This exercise, which I am carrying out with great pleasure and pride, also gives me the opportunity to speak a little to you dear members.
Indeed, a few hours ago, we nominated the best African athletes, coaches and officials for the year 2021. Certainly these people were named as an example and elected to this distinction, but our recognition extends to all players in our sport regardless of their function, rank, grade, mission, etc.
This recognition is all the greater since despite all the challenges you have gone through, you have all shown great resilience, with many sacrifices, to keep the flame of African athletics alive.
In this respect, I remain convinced that Africa will still be able to meet all the challenges and approach with serenity the major events of 2022, especially the African Cross-Country Championships, the African Senior Championships in Mauritius and the Senior World Championships, to name but a few competitions.
In this regard, we would like to sincerely thank all people who helped maintain our joy of living and especially those who, beyond all recognition, continue with determination and passion to make the CAA house a haven of peace.
Finally, I would like to wish you, your families and loved ones our best wishes for health and prosperity for a happy new year 2022.
Long live Africa!
HAMAD KALKABA MALBOUM
The Confederation of African Athletics has nominated the best African athletes, coaches and officials for the 2021 season.
This is a very difficult moment for me to try, in a few lines, to pay tribute to a huge personality who has passed away forever: Lamine DIACK.
Late Lamine DIACK was and will remain a historical figure in African athletics which he served in all the positions he held in both the Senegalese and African sports movement. Indeed, he was one of the architects of the battle of our continent for the triumph of the ideals of peace, justice and equity in the representation of continents within the International Athletics Federation.
Former President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), now WORLD ATHLETICS, Lamine Diack died overnight from Thursday to Friday December 3, 2021 in Dakar, at the age of 88. He was buried this Friday afternoon at the Muslim cemetery of Yoff in presence of a large crowd.
The 22nd CAA African Athletics Championships shall take place from 08 to 12 June 2022 at Côte D’Or National Sports Complex (Mauritius)
There are 45 events on the program: 22 for Men and 22 for women and one mixed event. A 10 Km Trail Race for both men and women.
The Confederation of African Athletics held its 29th ordinary (virtual) Congress via ZOOM on Tuesday 28th September 2021, under the chairmanship of the CAA president Mr Hamad Kalkaba MALBOUM, Mr Sébastian COE, president of WA, WA Directors and Congress delegates.
Faith Kipyegon (Women), Joshua Cheptegei and Eliud Kipchoge (Men) are the only Africans selected among the 20 nominees (ten men and ten women) for the trophy of the best athlete of the year.
Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon is the continent’s only athlete for the election. She is Olympic champion in the 1500m. On the men's side, the Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei, gold medalist in the 5,000m and silver in the 10,000m at the 2020 Olympics and Kenyan marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, crowned in Tokyo, carry Africa’s hopes.
THE CONFEDERATION OF AFRICAN ATHLETICS (CAA) SIGNED A TRIPARTITE PROTOCOL AGREEMENT WITH THE IVORIAN ATHLETICS FEDERATION (FIA) AND THE NATIONAL YOUTH AND SPORTS INSTITUTE (INJS) OF ABIDJAN, A STRUCTURE UNDER THE TUTORSHIP OF THE IVORIAN MINISTRY IN CHARGE OF THE PROMOTION OF SPORTS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SPORTS ECONOMY, RELATING TO THE CREATION AND FUNCTIONING OF A SPECIALIZED CENTER IN THE TRAINING OF EXECUTIVES AND ATHLETES.
